Why Workplace Mediation is increasingly popular
Workplace Mediation is increasingly becoming a key tool in dispute resolution within the workplace. Its informal, confidential and facilitative features lend themselves particularly well to resolving disputes at an early stage, thereby improving the likelihood of maintaining good and productive working relationships.
One of the key features of mediation is that the resolution is agreed by the parties, and not imposed upon them by a third party, making it more likely that the resolution will be complied with to its conclusion.
Where mediation works particularly well
In practice, mediation has been found to work well in the following situations to restore relationships:-
- Grievances – either those raised during another procedure e.g. a disciplinary procedure or where “cross-grievances” are raised by various employees being investigated
- Sensitive issues involving allegations of discrimination, where matters need to be addressed confidentially and swiftly
